New year, new job, new career? Are you looking for a new challenge in your career? Maybe a complete change of career? Have you thought about a recruitment job?
Recruitment industry is a lager sector in the UK but was hit badly by the recession. The good news is that recruitment businesses are the first to pick up after a recession.
Hilton-Baird’s biannual SME Trends Index reveals that 70% of recruitment businesses reported increased turnover in the six months to the end of October last year. Across all sectors, only 41% of the survey’s respondents recorded an increase.
Half of the recruitment businesses surveyed said they had now entered new markets. They have also needed to make tough strategic decisions and plan efficiently to take advantage of new opportunities. 54% of recruitment businesses took on additional staff during the period.
So, it is a good time to think about a career in recruitment. However it is a tough environment. It’s a sales driven environment where the remuneration can be very attractive. However you need to excel to achieve the large pay packets that recruitment companies offer.
A must have trait for success in your recruitment job is ‘discretion’. You can’t call people at work to discuss new opportunities. Finding candidates is a detective operation, so knowing where to look and how to approach people is a skill that has to be learnt.
